The most significant improvement is the extension arm, which, for one, keeps your phone raised above the mounting surface. This extension arm connects to the charger head through a ball-and-socket joint, allowing a much wider range of positioning for your phone. Instead of being limited to the usual fixed portrait orientation, you can now position your phone in landscape orientation as well.

As for the charging head itself, the Scanstrut ROKK Edge 10W wireless charger retains the extended jaw opening range of 4.7 to 6.8 inches. The inside of the jaws is also fitted with non-slip rubber fins that grip your mobile device securely without scratching it.

Design and Dimensions

Like other Scanstrut wireless chargers, the ROKK Edge comes in a black finish. So, you can mount it on either dark or light surfaces without worrying about it looking out of place.

While the dimensions of the charging pad are the same as those of the ROKK Active 10W, this unit can be mounted more effectively in tight spaces. This is because it mounts using the base of the integrated extension arm, which has a compact footprint of just 5.5 cm in diameter.

The height from the bottom of the extension arm to where it joins the charging pad is approximately 7.7 cm. The charging pad can then be tilted vertically by up to 60° and rotated 90° to the right.

Construction and Durability

Does It Work on 12V and 24V Systems?

This wireless phone charger has an input voltage range of 10–30V DC, making it compatible with caravans, campervans, RVs and boats equipped with either 12V or 24V battery systems.

If you intend to power it from your starter battery, its wide input voltage range makes it compatible with both traditional and smart alternators. The charger can also handle occasional overvoltage conditions on either a 12V or 24V electrical system.

How Easy Is It to Install?

The charger is very simple to install. It's a DC accessory, so you can install it yourself if you're comfortable with tools and have basic wiring skills.

How Do You Use It?

As mentioned earlier, the ROKK Edge is very similar to the previous ROKK Active on the charging pad, making it very straightforward to use.

The gripping jaws are spring-loaded and self-aligning. When you push one jaw open, the other automatically extends. This allows true one-handed operation, which is especially convenient when you need to dock your phone while keeping your other hand on the steering wheel.

If you wish to adjust your phone's viewing angle while it's docked, simply loosen the locking knob on the side of the extension arm. Then, rotate the charger head to your preferred vertical angle in either portrait or landscape orientation.

The ball-and-socket joint features positive stops for the various alignment positions, making it even easier to adjust your phone to the desired viewing angle.

How Fast Does It Charge?

If you've positioned your phone correctly on the charging pad and the power supply is active, it should begin charging immediately. You'll notice your phone's screen light up, and the charging indicator will appear.

The charger delivers 9V@1.1A (10 watts) of charging power. Its 10W Qi charging technology is the same as that used in the ROKK Active 10W and ROKK Nano 10W. For this reason, you'll notice it typically takes 55 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes to recharge your phone from 9% to 70%.

However, this charging speed is not fixed. In extreme high or low temperatures, the charger may reduce its charging speed or temporarily shut down.

How Much Power Does It Draw?

This wireless phone charger has an average standby power draw of 0.1W. This equates to just 2.4Wh over 24 hours, making it highly energy-efficient—a critical consideration for caravans, campervans, RVs and boats.

While that power loss is negligible, you should still consider installing a switch to turn the circuit supplying your ROKK charger on and off. Otherwise, that 2.4Wh is enough to power one of our popular 12V downlights for almost an hour.
